Power scheme problem

Computer: Lenovo Windows XP SP2

Problem: Last night I tried to create and save a new power scheme. I got a strange pop-up box: "Power policy manager unable to set policy. Indicates two revision levels are incompatible."

I exited Power Option Properties and re-entered. The new power scheme did not appear and it looks like some of the pre-existing power scheme settings are now gone. Since then, whenever I try to create and save a new power scheme, exit Power Option Properties and then re-enter, the new setting that I thought I had created is not listed.

I downloaded an Adobe Acrobat ActiveX last night prior to making the power scheme change. I don't see how that could play into this, but thought I'd mention it. (I got concerned afterwards and scanned my pc with SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D, and Nod32...everything was clean.)

Checking the web today I saw a few entries about this issue. One of them said to make some changes to the registry, another suggested a tip from Kelly's Korner. Before I consider either of those (I definitely don't like monkeying around in the registry) I thought I'd ask for any suggestions at Major Geeks.

 

Thanks. I checked out your link and it looks like the suggestion is to use one of the two or three pre-existing power schemes that remain on my computer (remember that the other ones disappeared) and try to change those settings. I'll give that a try, but it remains a mystery and a concern why I used to be able to create new power schemes and now I can't.
