Power supply dead?

Today my brother heard a "popping" noise and since then his PC will not boot. It won't even turn on.

I think the PSU is dead.

 

have a look at the back. you probably find the fuse blew. I had that happen once. It blew, then it stank of burnt dust.. all i had to do was replace the fuse and it worked.

 

Ok I now know it is the PSU that is broken. I can get a new PSU easily, but (and this is a big but) I knocked what looks like a heatsink off my Radeon 9800 Pro and it seems to be fubar. I used sellotape to secure it back into position, bit of a botch job I know. It is still fubar though.

Will my warranty cover the damage?

 

:wtf: you knocked the heatsink off your radeon graphics card? damn! don't run it until you put it on properly. no celetape rubbish... do a proper job or your card could overheat and potentially damage itself permanently...

how did you manage to knock the heatsink off? the graphics card should be nowhere near you PSU...? WTF...

 

Some PSU's do not have a fuse.


I'd just go ahead and buy another PSU, also buy a surge protector to help prevent these situations.

 

oh... well mine had one. was a b***h to replace. had to borrow a tiny soldering iron coz the one i had had a massive head item. so i would have been burning extra transistors or whatever...

 

i have an atx 400w lying around if you are interested.

 

Not THAT heatsink, dumbass, I meant a small heatsink that was on a tiny chip, only 1cm squared in size.

At least, I think it was a heatsink.

 

you the dumbass here. how the fukc did you manage to knock something off your graphics card? it sounds to me like a mem chip or something... anyway, guess what? you the dumbass..... hahahaha LOL
