Hello. I hope someone can help me. My 3 year old computer takes 5 to 10 tries to turn on these days. It starts running for maybe 2 or 3 seconds then shuts down. No beeps are heard, monitor does not come on. I have to keep unplugging the CPU from the wall repeatedly before it finally engages. When it does, it starts up in the BIOS screen. I've checked & reseated all cables. Is this a power supply problem or could it be a virus?

most viruses don't infect the bios like that, and won't be fixed by unplugging/replugging. the bios screen thing might be a dead cmos battery. look on the motherboard and find a coin cell lithium battery. it's probably a cr2016 or cr2032. go to the rat shack or something and get a new one and replace it. the bios thing should stop:)

now, if the main problem still exists, then it's 100% the power supply. you can get a good fortron 350 watt from newegg for about $40. that thing should never die on you. goo dluck
