Had this Medion MD8818 since 2006, no problems at all. It's currently running Win 7 x64 Ult, and one day last week, while creating and verifying an Acronis image, for the first time ever I ticked the box to shut down when the operation was complete. Every day since it has failed to start until I switch the mains power off and wait for its blue power light to flash, about 10 secs. Then it starts normally.

This could be a fault with the PSU of course, but that would require a remarkable coincidence after being trouble free for the best part of five years.

    Any thoughts anyone?

As you say it could be a coincidence but PSUs do loose about 10% per year and it could be related to that.
Ideally you could try another PSU and see if the problem recurs and if not at least you know to look elsewhere.

My suspicion is that in W7 x64 the form of the shutdown command issued by Acronis 2010 leaves power management in a state of suspense. It would be typical of Acronis to get this sort of detail wrong, strong as the program is at its primary function. I just ran a backup verification with Shutdown on completion ticked just to see what actually happens, and a dialog box popped up counting off 20 seconds and informing me that if I did not do anything in the remaining time the operation (i.e. shutdown) would be cancelled, which is a right bit of nonsense when you think about it as it is only there to facilitate an unattended shutdown. But despite what it said it did shut down on completion.

Anyway, I ran shutdown.exe -s -t 00 from the command line and for the time being that appears to have fixed the power-on problem. Need to see what it does over a few days though to be sure. If anyone else with Acronis and W7 x64 is willing to test this function that might be helpful.

I have win 7 X 64 Pro but my Acronis is 2011 version and if it is a fault in the application it could be fixed but i will give it a try.
    Will post result later.

Thx Bill. Look forward to hearing how it goes, as I also have ATI 2011 but didn't bother installing it as 2010 was working so well. I do use its rescue disk though.

That does lend support to it being the PSU itself. Mine's OK too atm but that's when the PSU has had time to warm up. See what it does overnight.
