PowerPoint 7 Animated Text Question

I am creating a slide show and want to animate the text, in a bulleted list, to appear one letter at a time as if being typed in real time. I tried the animate/fade/one line and that works well, just not what I want.

I'd also like to use multiple objects on a slide that appear at different times, then maybe drop into place on the slide.

I could use a basic PPT7 tutorial, but most I've seen assume a lot.
