I wanna know where you stand and know why. I am in high school and wanna know this. I think it is a big part of our lifes, it changes our current news, and if ou have noticed, scince the election has started with all the debates and commercials and publicity, 19 more people have died in iraq. Im not saing the presidetial election isnt important, but i think the war on our country is a little more important than '' Whos gonna run this *****'' And sorry about the spelling, not very good. But just tell me what you think, I wanna know.

Jake, politics and religion are two topics that cause violent reactions in forum discussions. Lots of flaming, etc.

You will probably spend your whole life trying to decide your OWN position on both, just as I have this past 67+ years.

The underling reason for this war has it's root in politics, and it will be a political solution that gets us out. I would say that makes it as important, at least, and there will always be the next war.

You will notice I didn't state any personal opinions. This time of year people are pretty fired up, and most of us come here to relax.

Its impossible to choose in my opinion whoever you choose for whatever reason it wont matter when they take power because they'll do whatever they want to and forget all the pre election promises.

Stick their names up on a board and throw a dart:D

Not really at present looked at what the candidates in your elections are pormising BUT I will say that all politicians promise you the earth ( as Rikky said above ), get elected and they never deliver, so its easier to roll a dice.

Or in seriousness just go for who you think on balance of evidence of what they are saying seems as if they will be the best to deliver on these promises.

Just follow your own thoughts on this and do not follow others because they think a said person in this election is who they are rooting for, make your own decisions.

I don't think so,I can only give my views on Hilary Clinton, her husband cheated on her and to keep up appearances and her own ambitions she decided to stay with him, that doesn't sit right with me I think she's power hungry.

Obama seems pretty cool a modern liberal but I don't think America is ready for a coloured president yet and he's too young IMHO.

I think Hillary will win though, interesting times.

Who are the candidates for Presidency? The only ones I have seen on our news are Mrs Clinton and Obama.

I am trying to keep an open mind about the whole thing at this point.

A couple candidates I DO know I won't be voting for.... Hillary and Huckabee. I think the US is ready for a woman president, but Hillary would set us back years. She is grating, to say the least.

@Rikky I think the US is also ready for a black president. Unfortunately for Obama (besides his name), he is sorely lacking in any real experience. I like him though.

I find it odd that it is in vogue now to say you are for someone based one race or gender and not on qualifications, when we've spent the past 100 years trying to get people not to look at race or gender and only qualifications.

Whoever is elected the next President will directly affect the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. So it is at least equally important.

I do agree, however, that since election coverage started almost six months ago I am already sick to death of all of it. Which is not to say I'm not actively working on a campaign or two, just that I'd like a little variety in my commercial breaks on the rare occasions I have time to watch TV.

I won't come down on one side or another...it's too big a risk on a message board. I will say, however, that it doesn't matter who or what you vote for, as long as you get informed and vote.

A couple of websites that are very helpful in election years:

Shoot. I used to have another one, but I've forgotten it. I hate that.

I don't care for her personally, but I think its a tad unfair to look at it that way. If you read her book, she goes into the details surrounding the issue with her husband. She was more concerned about keeping her family together and reestablishing her bond with Bill than how she would look politically. I commend her for forgiving him, and fighting though it to keeping a strong family after all was said and done. Of course it depends on how you look at it, and no one will really know her true intentions. Just throwing a different point of view out there. :)

As for the elections as a whole. It always seems like I'm picking the candidate that I think will be the least worst, or the lesser of two evils etc. I'm not too enthusiastic about it, there's no one I can really fully support.

I'd like to see two polar opposites as President and Vice President. That way their extreme ideas can be combined through compromise and we'd have policy that is closer to the middle. Kucinich/Paul would be an interesting four years.

I'm a long way away but I believe what would be best is something totally different.

Different Political Party / Gender / Race

I dont believe in change for the sake of it, but sometimes the whole system needs a shake up.

The only person I'd actively vote for, would have to be McCain, who actually showed up for his military service.

Even then, most of them are the same person in a different suit. No matter who is elected, there will be no change. The country will simply continue on it's downward spiral into the third world. It's only a matter of how fast.

The truth is never cynical. Besides, I have not yet begun to cynic.

So if everyone votes, we can choose our president? Wrong. We have this thing called the 'electoral college'. Which means cigar smoking good ol' boys, who decide what happens, completely regardless of the voting public. We could vote overwhelmingly green party, and they could still decide to just force a republican down our throats. They aren't legally bound to respect the voters choices in any manner.

I know exactly why I feel this way. Because like many americans, I can't find a job, because of years of overinflation and mismanagement. The state in which I live is rapidly going bankrupt. We actually shut down for a period of time, because the legislature refused to come to an agreement.

So no, I'm not cynical at all. I'm simply relating the truth.

Don't get me started on the media.

Does Triaxx the guardian of Earth live in Michigan?

That's why this is the land of the free. We can speak our minds without worrying that we might be facing a firing squad.
And yes, many Americans are upset with the folks we have elected to take care of us. We get promises of grand changes. They get their votes. We get forgot about.
But this is the best darn country in the world to live in!

The nature of politicians is not a national issue as much as it is a global one.

They all fail to deliver on their promises, and we let them.
About all that you can do is vote them out the next time.

Would have to imagine that it varies a lot in other countries (I dont fully understand our system let alone anyone elses), but over here it is basically bipartisan (there are a number of parties and independents, but only two parties have a chance of actually forming a government) and i vote for the basic platform of the party whose ideals are the most similar to mine.

I do not worry about the 'popularity' of the party leader due to the fact that it is a democracy; the prime minister is as much a figure head as anything else.

I have to agree with that statement 100%
There is no reason at all for anyone to come to Australia.
Regardless of what you may have heard, the white sandy beaches are actually made out of very sharp black rocks and the Koalas are all feral zombies and most of them have rabies.
The rest of the world will all be much happier and safer staying at home ;) :D
