Ok guys heres what's happend. I was trying to create a FAT32 partition on my 1TB seagate external harddrive. Anyhow it started erroring and i manually shutdown my inspirion 1720 dell laptop. Anyhow when it booted up it gave me 2 options, start up windows normally or enter this system recovery tool thing. If i click start windows normally the windows logo pops up and it seems fine for 2 seconds before it restarts and then loads the bios and gives me the two options once again.

I tried following the info it gave me and that didn't work (system recovery, system restore blah blah blah) so now i'm enjoying some good old fashion DOS with cmd.exe. By using the diskpart stuff i've concluded that my harddrive recovery partition is fine and it spat out all the info volume 2, D, recovery, NTFS, partition, 10GB healthy. However if i ask it to "detail partition" for my main 136gb partition it simply spits out the following:
    Partition 3
    Type : 07
    Hidden: NO
    Active: Yes
Offset in Bytes: big *** number
There is no volume associated with this partition.

Yesturday i installed windows 7 upgrading it from vista and deleted all my old vista files and simply backed up my documents and video/audio files. Annoyingly before this happend i had transfered my documents back over to my main hdd, the ones i would very much like back.

Is there any way to associate this partition with a volume? Is there anyway i can install windows 7 on my laptops 2nd hard drive which is apparently fine.

I'm pretty sure this happend because of partition magic which had a few pop ups about it wanting to repair disk errors which i stupidly let it do.

    Regards,

    Andrew

Is there any recovery programs that could say help me recover the irreplaceable documents that are on that harddrive before I wipe it and re-install windows 7? I'm also seeking help at another forum and they suggested just starting from scratch by wiping and intalling windows 7 using: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dban/files/. but i really want to know if there's any way of saving my documents!
