print drvr for hp lj1600 for W98se use

I'm new to this forum so bear with me.

I have an old system - Win 98SE / W2K - Dual boot configuration under a pentium II - 350mhz system I need for a scientific test equipment that uses the old ISA slot for the test equipment I/O. The software for the test equipment must run under 98SE - bummer or I need to upgrade the equipment for 10K..not my best $$ choice at this point in the economy. Finding old printers that run under 98SE has not been successful and I'd like to keep what I have anyway. It does work under 2K - reason I've got the dual boot set-up.

Question is: Does anyone know where I might find a print driver, (or one that may work) for the old HP LJ 1600 that will work under W98SE? I've contacted HP - they don't support that printer under 9X and all driver sites that I can find offers a solution for the printer in W98SE mode. If I can find a way to configure the system to recognize the printer in W2k while running in 98SE mode. I don't know how to have both OS running at same time or if it's possible.

Any help on W98SE drivers or dual boot running same time and sending file to printer in W2k while running app in W98SE?

This is very helpful but I don't have the original lj 1600 Cd. I was given the printer from a friend that had a pile of old printers he didn't use any more and doesn't have the cd that goes with the printer. Any chance you know where I can down;oad the original CD files?

Here is a link for the CD software but it is in a exe file. You might have to extract the files from it with something like Winrar or Universal Extractor. There is also a page for ordering the CD.

On this page you will find the plug and play software and the driver software but those are also exe files.

Okay, I downloaded that 33MB file and it looks like a self-extracting zip file. I opened up in Winrar with not problems, and the English folder with the Driver subfolder is there. You can either keep it on your hard drive or burn all of the files to a CD if you wish.

 

Just tried this (latest 2K version download). Still doesn't have the HPC1600U.inf or CLJ1600.inf file in the English\drivers folder (per prior direction of pnp install for w9x OS) unless I'm doing something wrong when unzipping the main printer program?

I can't get the machine to recognize the motherboard USB's either, maybe the problem to start with. Too bad MS doesn't have a main site that lists all the fixes and drivers for the old OS's they don't support any longer. Trying to be a Sherlock Holmes when being a novice is difficult at best. I like the old saying KISS. Make a folder for the old OS's and put everything they had in there instead, makes sense to me!

I'll keep trying to find a fix, can't see shelling out $10k right now to fix an old piece of test equipment. The OEM cliams it will work under 2K but can't get the unit to recognize the old ISA slots / board from the mfg even though they provided me with the drivers that were supposed to work.

It may be just a bad Mother Board issue or ME!
