My printers stopped working and the reason it gives is the print spooler is not running. I know it's not my USB because my scanner still operates.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for your printer?

Start -> Run -> Type services.msc, click OK. Scroll down to Print Spooler and see what's up. Try stopping and restarting it if it shows that it's running.

    Hi Darkknight
I did a refresh on my printer and shut down the computer and the printers. When I rebooted I had printers until I tried to print. Then it told me the print spooler was not running.

Go in as described below by "The Doug" and check and see if the "Print Spool" service is running. If not, try starting (right click on the service) and printing again. Also check your event log and see if there are any ref to the printers or spooler.
You state printer"s" - does it happen regardless of which printer you print to? Did this start happening after an update, install, etc?

Hi TheDoug When I ran services.msc and started the print spool it worked until I tried printing. Then it says spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem. Thats as far as I can get. It doesn't matter which printer I try using and it happened in the middle of some printing I was doing.

I know you started it from your post above... but what is the print spooler's startup type set to, Auto, Manual or Disabled?

if not set to Auto.. try that... if it works then try Manual.

I ran services.msc and the print spooler was on automatic and was not started. I switched to manual and it printed one page and quit. I switched back to automatic and tried to print but it says no printer installed. When I try adding a printer it says Operation could not be completed. This is the same for both my printers. When I try to stop the print spooler I got the message:
"an error has occured in the sgript on this page"
    WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mmcndmgr.dll/views.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Rogi, can you give more info leading up to this problem? Did you install any software, update any drivers, do any type of reinstalls or restores? Did you apply any services packs? Or did this just start happening out of the blue?

This printing problem just started on its own, in the middle of my doing some printing. I never installed any new programs, service packs, etc. Today my printers are gone from my Start/Printer and Fax and it won't allow my to add a printer. It simply says the Spooler Subsys App has a problem.

I would like to thank everyone for their assistance with my problem. I ended up formatting my HD and reinstalling everything. Works fine now. :)

Yep I tend to do the same try and fix an issue and if after a few days its still the same re-install as the time taken to re-install is alot shorter than the time/stress trying to fix the problem... glad its now ok.

I did find I had similar when I did have the print spooler service disabled, the icons in the Printers & Fax folder where missing... enabled the spooler service and they came back, I now have the service set to manual and all works ok.
