printer issues

I have an hp computer using vista ,I have an hp laser jet 3390 all in one hooked up to it .the print and copy work fine but the scan doesnt work ,it says that it is not installed , tried to run the installation cd but when I get to the part that says to connect it using usb cable , it cant find hardware checked all connections , tried another cable and hooked up my digital camera on that same port to make sure it works , it does and it will print but I cant get thru all the installation cd . tried it on my laptop using xp and it worked fine . could the vista be causing the problem ?
