Printer Prints Slooow!!

I'm using a HP Photosmart 7760 printer and lately it has been printing very slowly. I have contacted support and we've gone thru all the trouble shooting steps.. The strange thing is that when we changed the spool setting from "spool for faster printing" to "print directly to printer" it fixed the problem.. but only for a few days .. after that it got slooow again.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I've changed the spool settings back and fourth.. still no fix .. the printer will print a test page from within itself at the right speed but when it comes to sending a document from the pc its no good. I have deleted all the temp files on the pc and ran scan disk and defrag. The support guys say I should pay for an exchange but maybe youz guys have a better idea? Thanks for you help..
