Printer Question ?

Hello,

I have a HP Office jet 4500 G510n-z that is wireless. Everything is configured fine with my computers and the network. I can print wirelessly with no problems.

My question is.... do i have to turn the printer power on every time i want to print something from another room in my house?

This might be a stupid question but.....is there printers that turn on automatically when it receives a request from the router? Much like awakening from a sleep mode to print? Or do i need to turn the printer on every time i print? (if so, it kinda defeats the convenience of having a wireless printer in the first place...

Any info is appreciated!

The only wireless printer I've ever used was a Kodak and it was just left on all the time. I was surprised at how inexpensive the ink cartridges were too.

I looked at HP's site for that printer. The reviews don't look too favorable. One even said

Looks like you're stuck with what you've got. If you go through a lot of ink and that's not very inexpensive then switching printers would likely save you money in the long run. When buying a printer look at the cost of the ink cartridges. Occasionally with the cheaper printers they are more expensive than the printers themselves.

For that matter, why worry about it? Why not leave the printer on? When idle, my two HP printers use a total of about 2 milliamps of current to run the power lamps - that's it.

My point: the electrical cost of leaving the printer powered up is negligible compared to the hassle of manually or remotely turning it on every time you wish to print something...
