... and there seems to be no obvious reason for it.

Its a Dell AIO A960 all-in-one. Has been a terrific printer. It was printing fine and now it isn't.

I've checked the cables. I've checked Control Panel/Printers to make sure it is the default and that it indicates the printer is ready. Yes to both.

I can print the cleaning page and that comes out good. I can print the alignment page and it's good. I can make a copy. But it won't print a test page and it won't print.

I went to Device Manager and told it to update the driver and after running it said it was determined that the driver for this device is up to date and the device is working.

I get no error messages at all. In fact, I ran that Microsoft Fixit for printers and at the end it said no problems were found.

It just shows the document as "Pending" or "Printing" but nothing ever happens. When I cancel the document, it just remains there and shows as "Deleting" but nothing happens ... until I restart. Then it will clear.

I've already posted in the Dell forum but I've never had much luck with any Dell forums so I decided to come here and see if anyone had any ideas on this. I'm sure I'm not the first one it's happened to.

I hope someone reads this and can help.:wave

You may need to manually select the Dell AIO in whatever program you're trying to print from and set it as the default printer in that program. Some apps simply use the Microsoft XPS Document writer as the default.

I've had the A960 set as default from the first and this problem just now started out of the blue. But in any event, I guess I wouldn't know how to change the default printer from within a program as I've never had to do it.

I wonder if uninstalling and reinstalling would help???

In the app, when you go to File -> Print are you asked where to print to or does a dialog box come up where you can select the printer and how you want to print and how many copies?

If you can't make these choices from within the app, maybe uninstalling from within Device Manager and re-installing from the CD may help. I used to have the identical printer when I had my Dell desktop.

I found my original CD (I think) It says on on
    Drivers and Utilities
    Dell Personal All-In-One Printer A960

Here's something funny strange. I tried to print a page and it didn't work. I rebooted and upon reboot, the page printed. Then I tried to print a test page and it didn't work. Upon reboot it printed.

Why will it print on reboot and then it's frozen again?

Did you like your A960? This one of mine has really been a good one.

I just selected some text from an instruction page and hit the print and this time it printed. Maybe it has worked itself out, whatever it was. I hope so. From what I've read I don't this printer is compatible with my new Toshiba laptop, but right now I still use my desktop most of the time so I was hoping to keep using my A960 until my desktop gives out.

The last purchase I made from Dell was great all the way around. That printer is over 10 years old and this XPS desktop with 20" flatscreen monitor hit 9 years last July. I love this computer and am going to hate to see it go.
