OS is XP Pro, SP 3, with a Cannon Pixma MP170 printer. What's happening is it prints normally except when trying to print MS Works files. When doing so I get the message "Printer drive missing or not valid. Run Windows set up to install printer software again." I have no idea how to do this and am fearful of losing my printing ability altogether. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a Works message. Works is an older program, so even though the message says your driver is out of date, it's actually just sensing an incompatibility with your more recent driver. Works print function is probably the problem.

Do you have MS Office or OpenOffice (3.3...can't speak for newer versions)? Both of those open Works files. You could use one or the other and then print from there...
