Interesting findings today. My brother-in-law uses my computer often, (job hunting for over a year now). We have the "guest" user set up. I came home today and my user desktop is up and running, and the firewall is turned off. I gave him a call, and he said he uses mine often because he has problems accessing and downloading from guest. He also said he has problems with firewalls, and must have forgot to turn it back on. Small wonder I've had so much crap on this thing in the last year. I thought it was my daughter.I checked history and cookies to see where he had been, and they were all cleaned up. Is there anywhere else on xp that I can check, I'm really curious to see what he's doing that a firewall would prevent. My old pc had 95, and I could check "contentIE5" but I can't seem to find that. Also this seems dumb, but how can I reset the login for MG. I logged in with the "remember me" checked and now suddenly I think I want to undo that. I know he's been here on my dime. I read over my posts to make sure they were all mine. Passwords, passwords, passwords.

I don't think I have any problems right now, I just reformatted a week ago, and it's running great. I can view files. the only stuff in there is what I have been doing tonight. This is no big deal really because it won't be happening again. I just figured if he'd been illegally downloading or visiting questionable websites, I'd like to know.

I'm editing because I just figured out how to log off. I'm an idiot.

Well, password remembering and clearing settings are all in:
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete

As far as checking the sites that he tried to access, unless you had some sort of a logging thing going, that would be not possible I believe.
Temporary Internet Files would be hidden under the 'Local Settings' folder, if that is indeed the case, you have to change the Folder Options:
START > Control Panel > Folder Options > View > select: 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' option.

Now if you right-click on START button and then Explore, it should open Windows Explorer, browse to:
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files is the folder where all the static Internet sata is stored but to examine the actual sites and addresses, check this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\History

Also I'd siable the 'guest' account if I were you and create a new 'power user' account instead.

you may find some stuff in Covert Ops to monitor your PC.
But what has already been done, that I cannot help you with.
but I am sure someone will know in Spyware or Networking

Thanks Turco. I remembered when I saw "hidden" on your post. There was nothing much in there. And lucky with the firewall being down. No problems.

@jarcher. Not sure if I want to go with the covert stuff quite yet. Just doesn't seem right. I like to think that I can just tell the guy to use the thing right, and he will.

    Thanks guys.

I know there are programs here at MG, that will allow you to view/delete the INDEX.DAT file. This will contain every site you've been on the computer unless it has been deleted by one of these programs.

As Ken3 says. You can view what sires have been visited, unless someone has cleaned them out.

    Index.dat Suite http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4280.html

Index.dat Suite is a rather unique program that allows you not only to delete the index.dat files, temporary internet files, temp files, cookies and history, but it also allows you to view the index.dat files on your system.
    Index.dat Suite's current features include: 104kb download
    - View index.dat files
    - Delete index.dat files
    - View and delete Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
    - View and delete Cookies
    - View and delete History
    - View and delete Temp files
    - View and delete Recent Documents
    - Auto-generation of batch file to assist in deleting the index.dat files in DOS.
    - Optional add to RunOnce registry key
    - Optional deletion of swap file (9x users only)
    - Optional defrag after file deletion
    - Full application logging

Don't use it myself so cannot comment. I regularly delete my Index.dat file by using a homemade batch file, usually daily. Bazza
