    I run XP, with AVG, AdAware and Spybot. Defender is also loaded and run occasionally. Malwarebytes is also loaded, but won't run, nor will AdAware or Spybot.
    I have tried to download Malwarebytes but it disappears when I click "Run".
    I also have difficulty in accessing Malwarebytes, as I keep being diverted either to Malwarebytes Free-Download-Place.org, or to other sites such as SpywareDoctor.
    I have recently had problems with other downloads disappearing at the Run stage or with Errors appearing at a late stage in the process; nether Realplayer nor Quicktime player will work.
    HiJack This has identified an F2 process that I was tempted to delete, but I thought I had better seek advice!

    You Guys were brilliant four years ago - hope you can help me now.

    Please note - I have now belatedly followed the guide on Malware Removal. There are no changes to my comments above

    As I stated I could not run Malwarebytes, I was waiting for advice.

    I cannot run SuperAntiSpyware or ComboFix either - should I be trying in safe Mode?
    As soon as I click Run on SAS I get the MS "Encountered a problem and need to shut down".
    MWB and Combofix both download ok, but do not respond when I try to run the programs. (I tried saving to Program Files and Desktop.)
    MGTOOLS ran ok.
    RootRepeal - message "Could not read the boot sector" when I tried to open the zipped file, but then seemed to open ok. I saved the log to the Desktop, but then couldn't find it - one of my problems is Shortcuts do not appear on the desktop when requested.

    Let's do this and then see if you can run the other scans.

    Please double-click the RootRepeal.exe previously downloaded.

    * Select File then Scan
    * On the Select Drives form select drive [ insert drive infected here ] by "ticking" the box for drive [insert drive here] and click OK
    * When the scan is complete - highlight each of the following file(s) (one at a time if more then one is listed) by left clicking it. Then use right mouse click and select the Wipe File option only for each file.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACaculkmqpax.db
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACekyahsvoep.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\uacinit.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACjneaodjtqs.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACqeaeltmsho.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACwhpvqqydai.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACwmkyfwxvrb.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\UAC37d4.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\UAC4e94.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\UACiqyqarykmm.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\asdf\Local Settings\temp\UACc5fb.tmp
    * After Wiping all files, immediately reboot your pc!

    After reboot, download/install/update and run the scanning tools you couldn't run!

    You also need to not allow all users to have Admin. privileges!

    Success! - the remaining logs are attached.
    Incidentally, I tried running them in Safe mode without success.
    I had some problems getting RootRepeat to run -
    "Could not read the boot sector. Try adjusting the Disk Access level in the Options Dialog" - which meant nothing to me, but after a few attempts and various messages including "Please contact the Author", I got it to run.
    No problems running SAS or AntiMal. Combo didn't back up Registry the first time, and locked up on 100% download of the Recovery Console, but ran ok the next time.

    Incidentally, I am still having problems with Icons not appearing on the Desktop.
    tomorrow I will try to get Nero operating again - doesn't recognise any CD/DVD drives at the burn stage - and see if I can download Realplayer, which doesn't seem to be blacklisted.

    I have added a HiJack This log which might be of use; I would be interested to know what the "024" item is, and also the "023 PLFash Device" and "023 B's Recorder.

    Good luck with logs and thanks for your help so far.

    You have a file missing that we need to deal with. So run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Allowing all users to have Admin. privileges is a very bad idea! You need to run SAS and MBAM on each user account! Any malware that comes in on an Admin account can then spread to all accounts!

    I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Program Files\u7iavi2294ih.bin
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\UACaculkmqpax.db

    FCopy::
    c:\windows\system32\dllcache\beep.sys | c:\windows\system32\drivers\beep.sys

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi Tim, thanks for the reply.
    I have followed your advice re Users, although they are all infrequent now, and will clean up the Desktop.
    As I have mentioned before, I often cannot get Ikons/Programs to appear on the Desktop (would appreciate help on resolving) and so I had to approach through "Docs & Settings"; they are in the folder, but wouldn't display. Seemed to work OK; rebooted after deleting the two files.
    PC seems to be stable now, no blue screens for a while. I would appreciate a response to my HijackThis query in my last mail - when I tried to delete them through HJT the system crashed, although I note that PLFlash is no longer there.
    I have had some problems downloading programs where the download stays at the "Run" stage rather than installing the program Icon - so each time you want the program you have to do a new install. I haven't risked this recently, but will try in the next few days.

    Thanks again
    Tony

    Please use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{66E2F539-12B6-4870-A500-7689CDE75C5E}
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{81D4BDA8-1F33-4633-B176-8A7E942ABDE1}
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{EF63305C-BAD7-4144-9208-D65528260864}
    Let me know if you have a problem doing that.

    023 B's Recorder --B's Recorder Gold. A program to record or copy cd's. Something someone installed.

    Other than the above, your logs are clean. I suggest that you post in the software forum for any additional assistance you may need.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
