Problem accessing files on Hard drive

I am having trouble accessing files on my hard disk.
Drive: Western Digital WD1001FALS-00E8B0
OS: Windows 7 X64


Problem: I cannot boot into the device, the BOOTSECT.BAK says
A disk read error occurred
BOOTMGR is missing
BOOTMGR is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
However every time I let the startup recovery run or attempt to rebuild manually it says there is an error that cannot be fixed.
I currently can access the system partition on the drive however I cannot access the personal files partition which breaks down like this.
System partition:100 MB
File Partition:998GB
Any ideas?

 

A system partition size of 100MB would not work too well with Windows 7. Since you are able to post your problem on this forum I am guessing you have a second computer. Because I'm to lazy to research right now, off the top of my head I think your best best would be to remove the drive from the computer, install it into another machine, see if you can access the large partition and back up the data that you wish to keep. Then delete all partitions, format the drive and reinstall windows 7.

 

Sorry I actually meant to delete this post. I fixed the problem a short time after I posted this. I printed out the partition log and error summary. Turned out the partition table needed to be fixed and widows 7 wasnt doing it. Reset the table logged in using my backup drive (I keep a formatted drive with recovery tools that I popped in my ESATA) set the partition to active and boom fixed. Good times, no matter how much better windows gets it is always flawed.

 

I think you need to repair the MBR. For Windows 7, see these instructions.
