i have a problem in my vedio card...this is what happened:

i try to repair windows xp os using the installer in my Windows Xp sp2 cd...
when the process was on installing hardware theres a error occured i forgot what it is... file cannot be found on the CD... i canceled it... then continue the repair.... when windows xp fin installing i notice when i click in the property>device of My Computer theres no display adapter on it....

so i think the error that occured during the installation was the display adapter.... theres no problem in the video card hardware since my monitor was attach to it now... its a separate video card not the built in one...

how can i fix it without formating my pc...

    thnx for the help

You need to go to the manufacturers web site for your brand computer & download the video driver for your model & install it

If you have a add-in video card you need to determine what make & model it is, go to the manufacturers web site & download the proper driver & install it.

Either way the problem is the driver for your video isn't installed & you are using generic video drivers which are just good enough to provide a display.

You should remove the currently installed Drivers before installing the new ones but ... If the card has an NVidia chipset, NVidia has an automated driver identification utility, if its an ATI chipset you have to do it manually. Once you've downloaded the new and latest drivers, save them to somewhere you can easily find them again. Now do a right click on My Computer, select the Advanced tab and select Environment Variables. Then under the System Variables tab, press New, under Variable Name, enter DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and under Variable Value, enter 1

Now hit ok, ok, ok, and do another right click on My Computer, select Manage, select Device Manager, then in View select Show Hidden Devices, now delete all Unknown Devices in the Other Devices area and all entries in the Display Adapters area.

Once this is completed, restart the machine, and wait for the generic drivers to be installed. Once the Generic drivers have installed, restart again, after restart install the updated drivers you downloaded then restart again. Problem fixed :)
