Problem installing software

I have a problem when installing software to my start menu, I get the error message "cocreate instance failed code 0x80040154 class not registered". It seems the program gets installed but not the start menu shortcut.
Also when running certain programs for instance ccleaner, I'll get an error stating "429 active x component cant create object" I only get this at the end of the scan or when I try to open tools then click startup. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I forgot to state that I'm running windows xp sp2.

 

Although it says 2000, for the fault, it often applies the same in XP.
See if it leads to sme files etc;

 

Several instances refered to on this link, - can be the cleaner causing it, acrobat reader, etc:
Sometimes acrobat reader can be niggly, and uninstalling and reinstalling, can help, also if you go to explorer tools, and disable acrobat reader addins, it might be the culprit, as I have had to do this before.

take a read, seems to be a registry concern, and an installer problem.
You can make your own start menu entries. Create a shortcut of a programs .exe file via a right click on it, and copy it to the start menu folder, (usually into programs or accessories. you can also remname the application anything you want from a shortcut and exclude the extension .exe.

 

As it can be a spyware, or, cleaner , antivirus which has removed an essential file, I would suggest you go to start, run, type in sfc /scannow, and insert your XP disc in your rom drive, and let windows replace any corrupte files - it can take a while, but could cure the problem.

 

Ive tried the Microsoft support route no luck there, now i'll try to replace corrupt files with the xp disk. Thanx Guys
