Problem installing software

I recently tried to install the update to Zone Alarm and
it would not install. I also tried to install Skype and it would
not install either it just locks up the computer with no error
message and I have to switch the computer off.
I am running Windows XP SP2. I have tried to use a restore
point and was sucessful in installing Skype and Foxfire 1.5, but
when I tried to install the update for Zone Alarm it would not
install.
Any one have any idea of how I can solve this problem. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have all of the latest Microsoft updates and I
did shut down Zone Alarm before trying
to install the update, although Zone Alarm will
shut it down for you if you forget.
I can not install any programs at all. I have
tried to unregister msiexec.exe and reregister
it, but that didn't work either.
Any suggestions??? thanks.

What actually happens when you try to install it or them?

Do you get an error message, and if so, what exactly?

You can try right-clicking the file, then properties, and click "Unblock" if applicable.
