This is an older PC, a new clean install of Win2000 Pro SP4, all Windows Updates installed including MS Installer 3.1v2, IE6SP1, DX9c. I attached a screenshot of the error I'm getting. I got the error when trying to install Adobe Reader 9 (I went with v8 and it installed fine), I get the error when trying to install Java, and I got the error when trying to install a couple of other things (I don't remember what they were tho').

(yeah - the colors of the screen shot are weird 'cuz I had to save it as a 256color .BMP in MSpaint due to size constraints)

Windows 2000 includes MSJava. I know I had major problems with Sun Java, which is now Oracle Java. Search for MSJAVA.dll You might have to disable this before you can install SUN/Oracle Java. It has been too many years ago that I dealt with this and my memory isn't clear on this.

Can't help with Reader because I dumped that years ago so I never installed v9.

I couldn't get any PDF alternatives to install (like Sumatra which isn't win2000 compatible-I just found that out now :-o and Foxit gave the same error I posted above). I normally stay FAR away from Adobe Reader anymore due to the many well-known security problems with it. I personally use Sumatra on my home PC and I install it on all my clients' systems also....

This thread was more of a curiosity than anything else.... I think Win2000 is getting so old that many new "standard" apps simply don't run with it anymore. This PC is also a client's system, and he only uses the PC to run Office2000 and email/internet, and THAT'S ALL. No CD burning (the PC only has a CDROM drive), no multimedia anything, no gaming (the video card is a 16mb Geforce2 AGP 2x), etc.... that's why it's still running Win2000.....

(luckily, the paid MBAM runs with Win2000! LOL )

I have Foxit running on my two internet connected win 2K boxes.

I did have to contact Foxit support in January. Foxit was broken on 5 computers! (XP Home, Pro and 2K). Support was EXCELLENT! The gal stuck with me for a week or more until it worked perfectly on all the computers. (Tax season is here and I really needed to be sure I could view, download and open pdfs). I was impressed with the level of support I received (through email) for a free program. I've gotten much less support in the past for paid hardware and programs.

I suspect it is some sort of glitch with the windows installer. If you have the time, you might want to contact Foxit support and tell them it will not install. Someone might be able to get the installer fixed.

Just had another thought. Do you have .NET1 installed? I think that might be needed. I just checked my notes and I have .NET 1.1 and SP1 installed. Also 953297 and 971108 which are patches for .NET1
