When trying to install Vista, I am getting error 0x80004005, saying Windows needs at least 405mb free to install, I have 132gb free on the partition I want to install on and 20gb free on the other.

It is not a fresh install, I am merely reformatting as I have a bad virus that no program I have tried has picked up. I do want to reformat regardless of the virus, I need help.

Please take a look at this knowledge base article on Microsoft:

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 service pack installation fails with error 0x80004005

Do you have more then one drive? If so, perhaps unplugging one of them will help.

Or if you have several partitions on a single drive, and if there is nothing that need to be saved on them, perhaps you can try removing all the partitions.
