Problem loading XP SP3

Several attempts at loading XP SP3 have failed. I have tried both through automatic updates and through Microsoft's download page. Each time I get the following error:

hkcr\adodb.command.2.8
c:\windows\NTServicePackUninstall$\Reg 00803. 5 Access is denied

I am logged on as administrator. My OS is up to date save for this service pack. My OS load is XP Pro SP2.

The update makes it all the way through initializing and key inspection then shortly after give me the above error. The only working option that it offers is a and ABORT.

Any ideas? I am free of maleware and viruses and I have an active virus detection.

Please help if you can. Thank you.

Make sure you turn off the anti virus program(s). Try downloading the redistributable SP3 (burn a cd).
I have been lucky, updated about 8 or 9 Dell desktops. All went without a hitch.

From what I see, the HKey_Classes_Root entries are expecting one thing and finding something else.
The advice offered was "Perform a windows repair from the WinXP CD-ROM. This repair is selected by booting from the CD-ROM, pressing ENTER on the first 'Windows XP Professional Setup' screen and pressing 'R' on the second 'Windows XP Professional Setup' screen." It resolved the error you are seeing.
