Problem minimizing windows within programs

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7, before I was on Vista. I run two different photo editing programs - Adobe CS4 and Corel PSPX3. I can open multiple photos/files within these programs, each in it's own window within the program. However, when I go to minimize one of these windows withing the program, by clicking on the minimize button for that window, the whole program minimizes. It happens with both programs so I know it isn't program specific. It never happened in Vista (or XP with earlier version) so I think it is some sort of feature in Win 7 that is causing this but I am having no luck finding answers on forums for the specific softwares.

Does anyone know of any settings within Win 7 that I can change so that minimizing windows within programs does not minimize the program itself?

I am not running any anti virus software currently so I know it isn't the AVG 9 issue.
