Problem: Power shut off and Internet doesn't work.

Alright, my Internet connection was working great until an electrician came to my house and shut off the power supplying my computer for a couple of seconds. Ever since that happened, it appears i CAN connect to the internet, with the dial-up process working normally. So it appears i still connect to the internet, but nothing internet related will work now, I have tested it on three things. Internet Explorer will not load any pages at all, it just says "Done" at the bottom left corner, with the page being blank white. I try connect to TS (Team Speak, a voice chatroom) and that won't connect at all either. I try to connect to the game, WoW, and an error pops up saing "unable to connect". I have no clue what is going on here, because it appears I am connected to internet. (BTW, I use dialup)

Dumb questions that must be asked.

1. Is your phone line plugged into your computer?

2. Have you tried a loopback test?
Start > run > cmd or command enter
type ping 127.0.0.1

3 Have you attempted to ping well-known internet sites
type ping www.google.com

Did two work? Did three work?

 

Good response SGC, I suspect he's already fixed his problem since he hasn't come back, but another place to check could be :

• In Internet Explorer
• under "Tools" and "Internet Options", then the "Connections" tab, maybe your provider is not the normal one as the default.

Also, you could have got a virus, and your dial up is calling an expensive premium rate phone number... that has nothing to do with internet at all...

A quick call to your internet provider will probably have this wrapped up in a minute.
