when i double click IE i get a warning message saying:

Cannot find 'file:///C:/program%20files/AOL%20toolbar/welcome.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

i click "ok" and the warning message pops up a second time. after clicking "ok" a second time IE loads without a home page. It's a blank white page, but i'm able to enter a web address and begin to search (such as google, etc).

This problem has been going on for quite some time. i no longer use AOL, but it's still installed on my PC. Can someone assist in correcting this annoying dilemma?

    thank you

Go to Start -> Run -> type regedit and click okay
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
    What is listed under:
    Default page URL
    Local page
    Start page

One of those might be set to something having to do with AOL.

Here is a manual solution tat worked for someone:
    (1) Open Internet Options (right click IE icon and click properties) and
make a note of all your trusted/restricted sites and allowed/blocked cookies.
    Click OK.
    (2) If you haven't already done so, uninstall the toolbar. (Click Start,
Control panel Open Add/Remove programs and remove AOL toolbar.) After the
un-installation runs, close all open windows.
    (3) Delete AOL toolbar in program files (Start, All Programs, Accessories,
Windows Explorer. Click the + by C:, then + by Programs, then+ by AOL. Right
click Toolbar and then click delete in the pop-up menu).
    (4) Open Internet Options, click Advanced Tab. At the bottom of the page,
under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" check the box by RESET. Click
    Apply,OK.
    (5) Restart computer.
    (6) Open Internet options and re-enter your trusted/restricted sites/cookies.
    (7) Open Programs tab and click Manage Add-Ons. I made sure AOL toolbars was
gone and then enabled all the remaining add-ons.
    (8) Open Advanced tab and make sure your settings there haven't changed.
Click Apply and OK. Now open IE and the message should be gone.
