Problem starting my PC up

Hello folks
ive not got a clue when it comes to hardware, but i hope you guys can help me out.


I switched my PC on this morning and at the bit where its loading windows (Black screen with the windows logo and the loading thingy) it gives me a black screen saying exactly :

I havent installed anything software or hardware latley. My bro was last on it... Playing world of warcraft, i asked him if had done anything to it and he said he turned it off at the button, not by Start> Shutdown. He also said he banged the front of the tower because the fan was making a wierd noise.

I have cleaned out the fans(4) and checked all the wires were in correctly.

I also noticed at the start where i can press DEL to get to the bios that it says at the bottom:

Any help is greatly appreciated.. im using my mates Internet hoping to find a fast solution

Here's a couple links. It looks like the hard drive filing system is having a problem. The PC was probably accessing the hard drive when it was powered down, resulting in incomplete files or (hopefully not) physical damage. Download and run the diagnostic from your hard drive manufacturer.

I sold a computer once to a mate and he was shall we say, a bit rough with it. He accidentally broke off the CD drive loading tray, and then decided to pull the CD drive out though the front of the PC, without disconnecting anything properly. After doing this, he got a similar error screen to the one you mentioned. When I had a look, the IDE cable had become partially disconnected from the hard drive. I guess he must have disturbed it. Anyway, plugging it in again cured the problem and at least it was less hassle than it would have been if I'd had to reinstall the OS.
