Working on a friends machine trying to get it to boot for analysis.
Keep getting a "Windows has encountered a problem and has closed..." blue screen.
Will not boot in Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration.
    Code I get is:
    STOP 0x000000BE (0x806E2800, 0x006E2121, 0xF78A2784, 0x0000000B)

Machine is a Dell Dimension C521 running Windows XP. Unknown if Home, Pro, or Server.
    RAM is unknown.

Any assistance here would be appreciated.

Have just attempted a Repair install.
    No good.
Will not even run the disk.
However, the numbers in the message are now different.

    STOP 0x000000BE (0x806FE800, 0x006FE121, 0xF789E784, 0x0000000B)

    Hi hrlow

If the PC has multiple sticks of ram, start by pulling them all and cleaning the slot and contacts, then pop one at a time in to test, to see if it will boot, as that last one links to some app or driver trying to write to read only memory space.

Even reset CMOS and re-enter any settings needed like boot sequence etc

Any idea on the history of this, was something new installed hardware or software wise or was an app updated before this happened? if so what.

Also what is the main security app used?

    Hello back at you Halo.
Machine has only 1 512MB stick of DDR2 RAM. I have none lying around to substitute with to try.
Friend said they have not added or changed anything.
He didn't even know how to remove the side cover. Total non-geek.
He also has no idea what defenses are installed.
    Updates? Unknown to him.
Getting ready to see if UBCD will run.

UBCD won't even run.Possible bad CD drive?
Have pulled CMOS battery and will try again in a few minutes.

Resetting the CMOS did no good.
Since the disks don't seem to run, will try a different drive..(Just in case).

Can mark as resolved (of sorts)
Deleted the entire hard drive, reformatted and a fresh install of XP Home.
Activated, updates, added security programs, AV and firewall=1 happy friend.
