    Hello.

    I'm having some probjems with my laptop, mainly F-Secure popping up and complaining about an infection in C:\Windows\System32\tdlcmd.dll. Also, the F-Secure gives me this kind of description:
    After rebooting, cleaning, quaranteening etc. the F-Secure seems to be unable to remove it. It just keeps comming back. I've had this problem for a few days now... unfortunately I can't point the exact time when I first encountered it. There aren't really any noticable symptoms other than F-Secures pop-ups (well, at least that I've noticed...).

    I've gone through your excellent "General malware removal guide" (The RUN ME FIRST -thread), but the little bugger still pops up...

    I'm sorry about my lack of knowledge on computers, but could you please still help me?

    I'm running on Windows Vista (Home Basic 6.0.6000 (Longhorn Beta)), 32-bit.

    Here are my logs (RootRepeal doesn't seem to work on my computer).

    Thank you already.

    Let's see if we can get Combo to remove it.

    FIrst, please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5

    Now disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):
    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\tdlcmd.dll
    C:\Windows\temp\fsaua.tmp
    C:\TMP0000003134A8133EDDA99286

    Folder::
    C:\TMP0000003134A8133EDDA99286

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hmm, it seems that Combofix only produces an unresponding black screen near the end of it's run (while creating the log) and everything just stops. After a reboot everything is fine (except for the troijan-warning).

    It possibly did create a log. Try to attach it now. And you need to tell me exactly what is being reported....the exact path to the file.

    Also, you need to attach the new C:\MGLogs.zip

    This time I managed to get something out of the Combofix, but it still didn't get to the end of it's run... Hope it'll do some good.

    The only file that gets reported by F-Secure is C:\Windows\System32\tdlcmd.dll , repeatedly, after every reboot. Eventhough F-Secure says it has removed it...

    Anyway, here are the logs:

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    c:\windows\system32\tdlcmd.dll

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

    NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Ok, here's what I got:
    However, after the reboot F-Secure happily popped up and informed about a troijan in C:\Windows\System32\tdlcmd.dll . As I looked closer of the latest F-Secure log I noticed it had found 2 viruses:

    Gen:Trojan.Heur.TDss.bu4akuPAJQdi (virus)
    * C:\Windows\System32\tdlcmd.dll

    which it quarantined. The result was 2 viruses, but only 1 quarantine. :confused

    And here are the MGlogs:

    Double click OTL on your desktop icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    In the custom scans box, copy and paste the following:
    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32\tdl*.dll
    Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

    When the scan completes, it will open a notepad window. This is saved in the same location as OTL.
    Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of the files, and attach it with your next reply.

    Please use windows explorer to find and tell me if this exists and what is in it:
    C:\ProgramData\TEMP ...is there something titled 8CE646EE ?

    I also want you to run MBAM after updating the definitions. Attach that log.

    Let's try this:

    * Please download TDSSKiller to your Desktop
    * Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    * Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

    * Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    * When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

    It appears as though that did fix that issue, but I would like you to run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    I want to double check that file.

    Still no signs of that little bugger.

    Very good!!

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
