Hey guys! :) So I was given a mac the other day cause my buddy got a new one... its a: Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (PCI graphics)
    Machine Model: PowerMac1,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 500 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 896 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 1.1.2f2

anyways it has an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 audio card in it that isn't working and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can get it to work... I downloaded the latest drivers from M-Audio but they just caused the computer to not boot after install and I had to safe boot and uninstall them to get my box to function again... also I contacted M-Audio tech support and their answer was "we don't support intel based macs yet" lol wait a sec aren't the intel based macs the new g5's? lol so if anyone has any ideas for me that would be great! :)

intel based macs are not g5's... in fact they are just what they say they are... the are INTEL macs. not IBM chips.... so if that is the type of brains they have working for their "tech support" I am frightened. but which version of OS are you trying to install this on?

OSX 10.4.9 ... I have just installed the update to 10.4.10 a few min ago cause I couldnt get my camera to connect and the update says it has fixed that problem.. :)
also I pulled the card and installed it in my PC to see if maybe the card just didn't work and after installing the drivers and everything it worked perfectly so I'm pretty sure its not the card...

from what i can figure out you may be out of luck... mac went from pci to pcix and then to pciexpress. with the introduction of the mactels, which are not pci based, they have basically stopped writing drivers for the pci ones to run in newer versions of osX.... i hate to say it but your best bet may be to go with one of m audio's firewire setups... and i wouldnt really blam maudio for the lack of drivers because you really cant blame them for not writing drivers for hardware that hasnt really been in macs for almost 5 years ( mac went to pci-x in 2003 and pci-express in 2005)

yeah? thats lame! lol well at least it works in my PC :) I'll just keep it installed there then... would be nice to have in my mac tho... I was thinking of giving logic a spin and having the audio i/o on that card wold me much better than the built in audio card... Im still a noob in the mac world tho as this is the first mac I have actually owned... I'm looking at getting one of the new macs cause I hear you can run XP on them and thats the only reason that I haven't fully switched to a mac... allot of the programs I use to write music are PC only and they run like *** in VPC :)
