Problem With Clock

    when i boot my xp system the year always comes up 2002 and i have to adjust to 2004 or whatever year it is. can some one help

    yeah the cmos battery is dead. buy a new one and slap it in.

    Battery is the first option and the cheapest too check first, remove it, it will have model numbers, you should be able to purchase from anywhere that sell watch batteries.
    Hopfully that is your problem, I just had mobo had time problem, turn's out the mobo had shorted out I found burnt spot on the board, about 5 weeks ago sent back to manufacture (RMA to Gigabyte) still waiting to get back. Poop!

    to bypass the need for the battery, make sure there's always power going to the computer. meaning if the computer's plugged into a surge protector, don't turn it off. as long as the computer's plugged in, the motherboard will draw power from the power supply instead of from the battery.
