1st, try a different usb port.
2nd, boot to safemode and try it.

    Tough one.
    The obvious problems could be
1:Your new camera is usb2.0 and your usb is 1.0
2:Your new camera might have to be in a specific mode.

Does Device manager or control panel scanners and camera show your old camera while your new camera is being pluged in.
Just making sure your xp doesnt think your new cam is your old cam.

I have a new camera, and on both my notebook and the desktop computers, the camera has to be on........I tried it both ways, I wanted to see if the usb would power the camera, without being pluged in to power or have batteries installed......usb would not power the camera......wobbles

Look in Device Manager and under USB it will say "enhanced" if it's USB 2.0. (XP should still detect it regardless)

BTW, do you have the camera on?

USB uses power for Plug n' Pray, so if it's not on then the computer won't know it's there.

And by on I don't just mean connected by the USB cable, but powered and switched on.
