Problem with DVD player in win 7

Hi All.
I have recently built a win 7 32bit system and my DVD drive will not work, tried uninstalling and reinstalling no good, loaded latest drivers still no good, my comp does recognise the drives, but will not read the disk, inthe end my comp stops responding, I know the drives are good as I have tested them on an XP system. they are Optiarc Ad-7173A.
Can anyone help.
