Problem with internet linked programs

Hi,
I have had a few problems with my computer and thought it was due to Malware so I have been trying to resolve the situation with good help from Chaslang
This was the Thread

I am having problems with lots of programs that are linked to the internet. Not sure if this is just a coincidence or is the source of the problem.

I can’t run the following programs/Tasks (there are probably others that I haven't found as well):

• Restore to backup point (says cant restore pick another point)
• FTP Explorer (Will load but won’t connect)
• Update Mcafee (Won’t connect)
• IE (Won’t load)
• I can’t access anything with connection options in (It just freezes)
• I can’t view HTML emails in Outlook
• Itunes (wont load)

Do you have a router? Are you running any firewalls or anti-virus programs?

Just to check something.

Click START, then RUN, then type in MSCONFIG (press enter)

Now click the radial button ( ) "Selective Startup".

Uncheck the following:

LOAD STARTUP ITEMS.

Press, OK, then YES to REBOOT.

Try running/accessing/working with what you have issues with.

I do have a router but my friends on the same network are not having any problems at all. I dont have any firewall programs, just McAfee virusscanner.

I did the steps you said but nothing changed. Should I re-select the box again?

I dont know what I can do? I have tried restoring to lots of different backup points but none work.
