Problem with my Lexmark Z11

I'm having trouble installing my Lexmark Z11 printer. I've had it a long time, had through many computer changes, and it's still in good working order, and at one, even had it working on my current setup. The problem is that it won't allow bidirectional support. At one time, a friend was able to get it working by going into my BIOS (if my memory serves me right) and unlocking the port from there, but I had to reset everything back to default, no thanks to some short power outages here. I was able to recover just about everything else, except solving this little problem. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Sounds more like problems with the computer, not the printer. Is it connected via Parrallel or USB? Try installing the software for the printer before connecting. Also if connected to a Network Print Server, some of the cheaper units will not properly use Bi-Directional. Also if connected by Parrallel, make sure that the port is set for ECP.

 

oops forgot to say it is connect via parallel, and thats part of the thing, when I like at the bios and all that, it says that the parallel port is disabled, and I think I can only change it to like 320 or something like that, I'll have to check it here again the next time I restart.

 

Sounds like you are talking about the IRQ. Do a Reset on the Bios, and also pull the battery for the motherboard out for aprx. 2 mins, and then start back up after you put in the battery. Once the Bios is reset, it should be set for PnP OS, and Parrallel should be ECP and enabled.
