Problem with Open With

I know I should check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"!

But, this statement is inactive(pale and not changeable) in my OS(win7 x32 Ultimate).

How can I make it active to check it and always use the selected program to open that kind of file?!

Try this:

1. Log in as Administrator.

2. Open your Registry Editor (type regedit in your Search and press Enter). Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. In the right pane is there an entry "NoFileAssociate"? If so, change its value from 1 to 0.

3. If step #2 was completed do the same for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.

4. Reboot your machine to see if the "Always use the selected program..." option is now available.

 

Step 2: In the right pane is there an entry "NoFileAssociate"?

The answer is: NO!

What now?!

 

Ok. If you right-click a file (make sure it's a non-executable, something like an image file or a text file) are you presented with an "Open with" option in the context menu?

 

Yes, there is! Actually just now I found out the solution!

I got this problem just with some video files, then I added ".mkv" to the end of those files, and it worked! Now I have my that check changeable!

Yep - once we cleared up the context menu handlers we were going to progress to file extensions.
