My problem is that not only are popups being stopped but I can't go to highlighted websites with using the ctrl key. This is becoming a nuisance. Any ideas? It never did this before.

your problem is not clearly understood, but the best thing you can try is to do a system restore as you mentioned it worked before. Restore your system to a date when it was working fine, but I should mention that any software installed after that date will not work.

Well, before we do that, we should consider configuring any pop-up blockers you're using...

What browser do you surf with? Internet Explorer?
If so, then you likely have installed a third party pop-up blocker somewhere along the line. Do you use google toolbar? Any others?

If its firefox, then you have a built-in pop-up blocker. You can define sites to allow by choosing options from the tools menu, selecting the content section, and pressing the 'Allowed Sites' next to the 'Block Pop-ups' check box, or uncheck this box to allow all.

I'm not certain what you mean when you say

I primarily use IE but google is on there, msn and yahoo. What I mean by having to use the ctrl key, ie someone sends me an email with an address to go to and instead of being able to just click on it and it taking me to the site the computer thinks it's a popup and blocks it. So I have to press the ctrl key so that it will let me go the the site. And I've been going to sites to download graphics and when I try to do that It also gets blocked and I have to use the ctrl key.

I'm not certain about MSN or Yahoo, but I know that Google blocks popups... do you have the same problem with the google toolbar disabled/uninstalled? I'd expect that disabling the toolbar will alleviate your link problem, as well.
