Problem with RAM?

I've been running the following combo for about a year just fine!

    Gigabyte® GA-VT600
    AMD® Athlon XP 2200+
    Cheapo 1GB PC3200 DDR 400MHZ (Single Stick)
    450 Watt PS
    (2) 250GB IDE Hard Drives
    NVIDIA® GeForce FX 5700

    ETC ...

Recently, my Memory went bad so I replaced it (2) Corsair VS1GBKIT400C3 PC3200 512MB sticks. Now, when I boot up my PC, the BIOS halts and diplays an error message which states that the changes to the chipset or clock-speed caused a problem and that fail-safe default settings have been loaded. Then you can select F1 to continue or DEL to enter BIOS setup.

With F1, the PC continues booting into XP and it runs fine (although slow it seems - I think the memory is running at 66mhz).

If I restart the PC without turning it off (a true reboot), it will not diplay the error again. If I turn off the PC and back on (power off - power on), the same error is displayed everytime.

I've tried to play with the BIOS settings without any luck! I hope some of you may have some suggestions!

    TIA!

Does your bios allow you to do a ram check on start up?

The Bios does a Ram check and displays 1xxxxxxxx KB OK!

    or something similar!

I've also tried removing one of the 2 512mb sticks! No luck!

Disable the ram check and see if that helps.

I will try that. I am unsure if can be disabled, but if it is, I will give it a shot!

    Thanks!

If this helps, what would you think is causing the problem?

Tell us your mobo so we can double check the compatability of the ram you got.

    Thanks. I will take a look for myself, however, I see no such features in the advanced chipset feature menu as shown here;

Does most mobo's have such features? Do you think my ram is incompatible with my Mobo?

Thanks for all the help ... you don't know how much I appreciate it!

I looked at the manual and couldn't find anything relevant to the check of the ram at POST.

I plan on updating my BIOS tonight as I think I am running version F4 and the newest version is F15.

I will let you know what I find. I also plan on manually changing the RAM speed manually to 200.
