Problem with sound on my Windows 7 PC

When I play sound on my Windows 7 PC, the sound has a strange vibration and sometimes skips momentarily. Any idea what the problem is? I've had this problem for about a month. The audio kind of hangs momentarily almost less than a second, but it is quite apparent. It happens sometimes during installs regardless of how much memory is free. But it has happened a few times while merely surfing the web. I have tried updating the sound card drivers and even gone as far as reformatting my entire pc...

    Any help will be appreciated!

You really need to send a bit more information if possible, for example:

Since this happened about a month ago one must wonder what changed at that point? Are you overclocking or tweaking your system?

    Couple of things to try:

I found one thread where a guy suggested going to your Control Panel, Power and selecting "High performance". This worked for one guy and is worth the 30 seconds it would take to try it.

While you updated your sound drivers (I assume Realtek) did you update your motherboard drivers? They help everything communicate so to update the sound driver without the mainboard drivers could actually cause some issues.

    Okay sure,

Nothing changed at that point, wasn't overclocking or tweaking my system, I just started noticing a weird crackling, popping noise coming from the speakers which work fine on another pc.

I've already set my pc to high perfomance but that didn't work.

Yes, I am running realtek drivers. I didn't update my motherboard drivers though, how would I go about doing that?

    Thanks again

I'm running Intel, downloading and installing the link you sent

The computer is custom built but the motherboard is:
Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 Motherboard (GA-X58A-UD3R)

    Hi

Once you haev installed the Chipset as the Major listed reboot and you "may" need to re-install your Audio driver again from HERE

If direct link doesnt work then all the Downloads for your motherboard are HERE

If you also see any yellow ! marks in Device Manager then check what device it is and then download the appropriate driver.
