hi, i have a problem with some spyware, im not sure how i got it on my pc :S

the problem is, every so often a bubble appears on the taskbar saying "security alert - you're computer is infected with spware, this could impact the running of your pc, please goto "www............com" to get up to date security". I'm sure this is part of the infection though.. I downloaded hijack this and have run a scan and i have a log. In add or remove programs, i found "windows safety alert" however, this cannot be removed, as i have read on another forum and tried myself. I'm not sure what to do from here, maybe someone could look at my "hijack this" log and help? i would greatly aprreciate that! :)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm going to post two sets of instructions below. Each will be enclosed in separate Quote boxes. Make sure to complete the first one 100% before moving on to the second one.

ATTACH THE FIRST LOG NOW BEFORE CONTINUING OR YOU WILL OVERWRITE IT!!!! And then immediately continue on to the below steps.

    How are things working now?

ok. i followed your second set of instructions completely.
thy certainly got rid of the unwanted popups/homepage that had been changed and the security alert doesnt popup anymore! thanks a lot.

just wondering, when i rebooted my pc in normal mode, things were different like my desktop background, and my homepage was msn.com instead of google (my normal one). is this right?

oh and one last thing. how do i know that there is no spyware in my pc now? there is no symptons that i know about anymore (thanks to you :drool :p) but is it possible something could be there recording my every keystroke? confused

and btw thanks so much for your help! you are teh beast! :D

here's the log "rapport.txt" from after booting in safe mode

Please read the below link so you understand what is meant by attaching your logs

HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

You posted them inline and if you read the stickies and also my instructions to you, you will see that I asked for them to be attached.

Yes! Part of the infection locks your background and home page. After the fix is performed, they are set back to defaults and you can now change them to what you want.

All I gave you was a fix for what you reported. If you want to know if you have other malware on your PC, you need to read and run the sticky threads. In particular the below must be run and the 6 requested logs will need to be attached.
