problem with system restore!!!!

hi guys! i hope im in the right forum for this problem. im trying to use system restore on my computer. i have checked' system restore is enabled but it wont restore to any point. i have tried at least a dozen restore points but every time my computer restarts i get a message saying (you'r computer cannot be restored to this point) chose another restore point. but it wont restore to any i chose. even the restore points i set up wont work. any ideas? i would be greatful for any help.....

 

I'm assuming that you're using Windows XP... Have you tried using Windows System Restore in 'Safe Mode'? I had almost the exact same problem which you're currently having (about 4-5 months ago). I rebooted in safe mode and performed a restore from there which worked in my case.

How to Reboot in Safe Mode and Carry Out a Restore:

1. Restart the computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt.
2. Log on to your computer with the administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
3. Type the following command at the command prompt: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
4. Then press ENTER
5. Follow the instructions which appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state, or undo the last restore if available.
