Problem with Windows

My sister-in-law is having a major problem with her computer. I was hoping to get some advice before they just admit defeat and re-format their hard drive and lose files.

The computer boots up to the start up windows screen and then shuts itself down....every single time. The following is the exact error message that I am getting when I try to boot:

csc.exe - Application Error
Application failed to initialize properly
0XC0000142.
Click to Terminate

SLTCHXOQ.T - DLL initialization failed
App failed to initialize because windows station is shutting down

END PRG
videoaipodconv program not responding

Then the PC shuts itself down. Same error, same result, every time. Thank you in advance for any informationa and assistance you can provide.

 

I'm not sure what the csc.exe is or if its causing the shutdown. From what I've read it could be MS .NET framework.

I'd try and see if the system is bootable in Safe Mode first. Tap F8 before the Windows logo when the system is booting and choose Safe Mode w/ Networking. Login into the user's account and then see if you still get that error.

If it doesn't restart, you may be able to better diagnose the issue. Try uninstall any recent software changes that may have caused this.

You may even need to go into msconfig and disable some startup items and/or services.

 

Unless it is a hardware issue, there's one way I know that might help you to back up files you'd rather not lose. It's reasonably complicated, but it's worked for me a few times.
