This computer is riddled with trojans and spyware, including the "only the best" hijack.

I am following through the instructions on the thread "Basic virus remvoal, trojan removal.." or whatever its called.

I have downloaded the programs, but I am having trouble booting the PC into safe mode.

Basically, I cannot use the keyboard until it is too late. The keyboard drivers or something do not load until the Windows XP logon screen appears (which is a bit too late.) Before that, the lights aren't on on the keyboard and no keys I press will do anything. I am sitting here pressing F8 for all I am worth :p

Is there a way to sort this? Or another way to boot into safe mode? Or is it OK to try and remove the viruses without being in safe mode? Will this be as effective? Thanks :)

    okay, cheers, that works.

i am now having problems running a virus scan!
this is not my pc but there is a lot of junk on here which has to be scanned and i have no idea what is deletable (i have deleted temp files etc but thats about it). So the virus checkers are running for ages, and part way through the PC will just switch off (perhaps it is getting too hot?)

I don't know too much about PC's (although 1000 times more than the owner does) -any solution to this? (short of installing a fan..don't think they'd be too impressed.) Cheers

Complete the steps in the READ ME FIRST to the best of your ability. Follow all steps and if any cannot be complete, just continue to the next step. Tell us the results when you come back. For all the scanning steps (except the online scanners) make sure you remain physically disconnected (unplug your cable) from the internet and keep browsers closed. Also as indicated in the READ ME, all steps are to be run after booting in safe mode.
