I have just built a new PC using a Asus a7v8x motherboard.
When i switched it on it boots straight into the Bios settings screen.

Every component such as hard drive, processor, CD drive, CPU is shown and picked up in the Bios but the machine will not boot up past this.
Windows XP is loaded onto the hard drive but most of the components including the hard drive are from other machines.
I am using a socket A, AMD Duron processor.

I would really appreciate any help as to why this buld only boots into the Bios screen and not past it.

    Thank you

    Odysseus.

did you reformat the hard drive and install a fresh copy of windows?

this is a necessary step when building a new computer, or changing a motherboard, as there are many different drivers and windows will not work properly otherwise.

Thanks for the reply. I removed the CMOS battery and shorted the CMOS jumper. I then changed various settings in the BIOS and was able to format the hard drive and install XP.

Once again thanks for your help.
