    Hi All.

I have been unable to connect my Asus laptop to an external monitor or projector.

It indicates that it connects to the remote display when I press the buttons, but nothing is displayed.
I tested it on several projectors as well as LCD and CRT monitors.

    Please help !!

    Hi Ockron,

Do you get a signal display on the projector, "signal a " or "Video Signal"?

  3. ockron

    NO.

    It says "No Signal Detected"

I've had a similar issue with a Sony projector before (mind you that was on an Windows NT4 laptop)....left the projector on and re-started the laptop. The laptops i've used before also have a hot key to spring the dual display (laptop LCD and projector), i think it was F12 or F10 (it has a piic of a screen on it!)

    i'll have a quick look!

    Ockron,

Leave the projector on and the laptop powered upand press the "Fn" function key and "F8". This enbale dual monitor mode so you can use the laptop LCD and projector or CRT at the same time.

    Hope this helps.

    I have done that.

Left the projector on the rebooted the laptop.
Also left the laptop on and shut soen and restarted the projector.

No joy with the function keys either?

    nope.

It shows on the laptop display that both is activated.
No joy on the projector though.

Same when I connect my 21' LCD monitor.

Could it be some setting in XP??

could be a manual setting the display properties, you could try that, right clicking on the desktop, go to properties and select advanced, and see if you can see the additional monitor/projector, although from experience the pre-set hot keys should work.

I know how annoying it can be, had the same trouble with a Dell notebook and projector, luckily all i had to do was hit the function key for dual display but thats not working so yep i'd give the display properties a shot, i'll have another try here.

Thanx for all the help this far Schrapnel.

I had a look and I cannot see any additional monitor/projector.

Could there be some hardware functionality that is turned off?

No worries, if the additional monitor is connected up it should show as an additional device in the display properties...like "Monitor 1" and then "Monitor 2" etc and you can select the one you want to use.

MS have got a page on it

    http://www.microsoft.com/AtWork/stayconnected/multiplemonitors.mspx

Have you ever been successful getting dual monitors to display before with that laptop?

Worth having a look at the link above as it has got a couple of options that we haven't tried.

    Yes.

I used to use the same laptop and a projector almost daily for months on end.

I have not been using it with any external monitor/projector since I installed sp2 last year.

Could that play any part at all?

could be if you've had no other config change since then. If you are desperate to use it you could always try uninstalling SP2, restart and try again...i know there have been a few hardware compatibility issues surround SP2 but didn't think dual display was one of them. MS have a hardware compatibility database on line but i don't reckon thats the problem as you have tried numerous monitor's etc. If it was me i would try rolling back to the last know config that worked (uninstall SP2...have you got it on disc?) and try that....

I have been toying with the idea of a rollback, but added some awesome programs in the last 6 months and don’t want to miss any of that.

I will try the MS website you in the link you provided and hopefully I can work it out.
