Problems downloading GetRunKey.zip

I'm working my way through the MR guide and when I click the .zip attachment to download the GetRunKey file, I'm redirected to a log in page. I wasn't a registered member, so I registered, logged in and tried again. I'm still being directed to the log in. Should I assume this means I don't have "sufficient privilages" as the log in page states?

Is there anyone available to help me sometime soon? My teenagers have wrecked my computer and I had hoped to get through this removal today to see where we stand.

    Thanks!

    Hi

You'll need to on login to the forum to check ( tick ) the Remember Me box and then you'll be ok to get Shownew and Getrunkeys

I checked the "Remember Me" box when I signed in initially...and after receiving your response, I logged out and logged back in. I did not have to re-enter any log in info. so I guess it "Remembered Me". From the MR Guide, I click "Using GetRunKey" and I'm directed to the "Using GetRunKey" page with a .zip file. I'm then taken right back to the Log In telling me I need to be registered or don't have the ability to download it.

Am I trying to download the wrong file? Can I get privelages for downloads required for the MR process?

    Thanks again.

Still no luck with GetRunKey, but got ShowNew

Since I was struggling with GetRunKey, I decided to try my luck with ShowNew...it downloaded with no problem. I guess I'm only half-privileged!

    Any ideas? HELP!!

Can I omit the GetRunKey step in the removal guide?

I'm having no luck obtaining the GetRunKey.zip file I need according to the Malware Removal Guide. What exactly does this program do? And is it a huge problem if I just exclude this portion of the process? I'd like to see this thing through. Thank you.

    Hi

If you gained Shownew their theoretically should not be an issue getting Shownew ( Shownew highlights new files that have been installed on your PC into certain folders and locations that malware use, so is very needed )

if you cannot get it from the shownew attachment, try this as I have just uploaded it to a temporary location http://download.yousendit.com/CCC3EAF83413DF43

Do please keep all questions and replies in the same thread as if fragmented the info can become lost or deleted as duplicates, plus as the malware guys here all work from the oldest threads to the newest you could go for days without an answer.

I was able to get the zip file you provided me. Thank you very much and sorry to be a pest. It's been so long since I've done any communicating in a forum, I know I screwed that up with all the posts. I apologize for that.

Absoluty no problems, glad you now have the file and can continue with the guide as the logs will help the pros work out whats causing the problems and be able to issue you with further removal instructions.

    Good Luck :)

    Lock Up mid-Malware Removal...HELP!

I made it through step 5 and reconnected my internet. I'm running ME and there was no "with networking support" option available. I tried Safe Mode, but couldn't access the 'net. When re-starting like I normally would, I'm locking up. Sometimes the cursor disappears...sometimes it's just stuck. My CounterSpy ran once locking up almost 2/3 through. The second attempt went fine and I have the log. It seems like CounterSpy is what's causing my problem. When I d-click on it to open it, it takes up to 5 minutes just to start up! I'm attaching the log. I don't know whether it will shed any light or not.

Is there an AVG anti-spyware compatible with Windows ME? The one I installed when beginning this process informed me that I needed Windows 2000 or newer. That's when I turned to CounterSpy. When I started locking up at every start-up, I uninstalled CounterSpy in safe mode to see if it would solve my freezing problem. I haven't frozen again since.

Is running the rest of the tests (6A and on) possible with a standard start-up? I have to have that for internet, I thinking. My options are Safe Mode, "regular" - not sure of the wording, step-by-step, and one more option which I've never dealt with ...it didn't have anything to do with networking.

    Frustration has set in...please help!

    MR Guide Completed-Suggestions Welcome

    Logs attached.
I do have some issues for you to consider in reviewing the scan results:
    1) My System Restore refuses to work.
    2) Dell directed me to partition my hard drive and install WindowsME a second time. (This has been a couple years back.)
    3) Why are there blank lines in my Add/Remove list? I ran through a few clicking "Uninstall" and a couple actually tried to do something, but it happened so fast I couldn't make out what program it was.
    4) My power supply fan was FILTHY. Computer locked up several times during MS Removal. I cleaned it thoroughly today and completed the removal guide right after. Have had no problems since.

    Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Re: MR Guide Completed-Suggestions Welcome

You forgot to attach a HijackThis log from step 7 of the READ ME; however, I don't expect that it would be that useful. Your logs are not revealing any major malware issues. Windows ME was and is just a very problematic operationg system. It is outdated and not supported so there won't be any fixes coming either.
I will give you a few things to do below but these are not going to cure problems with your OS. Your problems are not malware. It is your OS and if you plan on keeping it, a repartition with a reinstall may be your best option. If your PC supports it and you can get any drivers you need, you would be better off upgrading to Windows 2000. Windows XP may require too much horsepower for your PC to run.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Now right click Start and select Explore. Navigate to the below and delete them if found:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Sunbelt Software <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\TempDL\andrew's pics\SmileyCentralPFSetup2.1.60.1.exe
    C:\My Documents\reference (1).exe
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\msimg32.dll
