Problems mounting a Phenom 2 X6 1100T BE

I can't get this damn thing installed! The processor itself went in beautifully the damn heatsink/fan is a pain!!! The mounting arm itself is the problem. Everytime I lock one side in place it causes the other to move up so it can't be secured. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG! As it is I will probably have to buy and apply more paste even though I never turned the system on and I fear I may have damaged the CPU with all the fiddling I did to try to get this thing to mount.

 

It sounds like you didn't mount the lever on both sides before closing the arm. Did you mount it on one side and then push down and mount it on the other side? Mounting it on the other side will take some force. It will also take some force to close the arm.

I doubt you damaged the CPU if it was mounted correctly. It is possible tho.

 

I took a look at my CPU because I had to take the heatsink off in order to try to follow along with the video. The CPU itself does not seem to be damaged, no bent pins or visual signs of damage. Thank god... But I still cannot get it to mount on both ends it mounts fine or either side but it cannot reach the other side if locked in place on the first side. It actually appears to be too short to make the second clamp.

 

did you turn the arm fully to the left before installing?

For the second side you will have to apply some force so it latches on. Just make sure the arm is fully to the left before installing.

 

It may be easier to install with the motherboard outside of the case, then reinstall the MB once the heatsink is fitted
