Hi, sorry in advance if this is a bit rambling, I'm an amateur at this sort of thing...

I'm trying to reformat my parent's PC which is now so chock full of malware it's effectively unusable. In the attempt I'm fairly certain I'm running up against this problem (as copied and pasted from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302520/) :

    SYMPTOMS
When you use the Setup Boot Disks for Windows 2000 to install the MSDN version of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2000 Advanced Server, you may receive the following error message:
Setup cannot find the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).
Setup cannot continue. To quit, press F3

    CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Setup Boot Disks for Windows 2000 are not supported for use with the MSDN version of Windows 2000. The MSDN version of Windows 2000 is a DVD-ROM and the folder structure is different from the standard retail version of Windows 2000.

    RESOLUTION

To install the MSDN version of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2000 Advanced Server, use one of the following methods:
    • Start the computer using a startup disk that loads real mode CD-ROM drivers (for example, a Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Disk), and then run Winnt.exe.

    -or-
    • Start the computer using another operating system if one is available, and then run Winnt32.exe.

I was trying to boot from windows 2000 boot disks and I was getting that error message, my problem is that I can't get the sugggested 'resolution' to work, or even really work out what it's talking about. I tried booting from a windows 98 boot disk, during which I got an error message i think about the hard drive being NTFS formatted instead of the expected FAT32, it still went on to boot into DOS but I couldn't then for the life of me work out what was meant by:

Start the computer using a startup disk that loads real mode CD-ROM drivers (for example, a Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Disk), and then run Winnt.exe.

I couldn't see a winnt.exe anywhere on the install disk, there was a 'setup.exe' on the disk but it wouldn't run because it 'couldn't run in DOS', which seemed odd as I thought that was the whole point of using a Win98 boot disk...

Anyway I guess that's about the current situation... Any suggestions as to what I can do? Thanks :)

Can you start the old version ....if so I think they want you to have the dvd in the drive and then go to start / run and type in the Winnt32.exe

Make a change to your CMOS settings so that the CD/DVD boots first. All the necessary device drivers will be loaded and there is no need for a boot floppy.

And frankly, would be easier to use a standard win2000 install cd than messing with the developers edition ...wrong file system makes it hard to install, as you well know.
