Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Eversince running Windows Update SP2 I've been experiencing instability problems with IE6. I have adequate spyware and virus protection on the computer....updated version of NAV, Zone Alarm Firewall, Adaware, Spybot and Spyware Doctor...all current version and updated.

The problem is when I execute IE6, it load fine....I'll go to the MSN page to log in to receive my e-mail which is my general practice. Sometimes, after logging in and hitting the enter key, the page would begin to flicker several times and then I'll get an error page that says this page could not be displayed. Other instances are similar with the original opening of IE6, I could navigate to a site (any site) and when I hit the back button, I get the same problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could anyone possibly help with me trying to fix it? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you turned off the sp2 firewall?

As far as I know Service Pack 2 installs updates for your security that can clash with your existing software firewalls such as Zonealarm. I'd guess that software conflicts are causing your problems.

Are you using Messenger? Have you configured the MS firewall?

I'd suggest trying to roll back to SP1, or troubleshoot by disabling each potential conflict one by one.

I agree with the firewall suggestions that others posted. I've had problems on some systems with ZoneAlarm and SP2. As Matacumbie suggested, check and see if you have turned off the Windows firewall. If you haven't, please do so. I have personally switched to Sygate as my firewall software after experiencing difficulty on a few machines with SP2 and ZoneAlarm. I'm sure that the ZA fans will be posting, but I swapped firewalls because of issues that I encounted, and Sygate has only given problems on one system, and ZoneAlarm worked great on that one.

    Hope this helps! ;)
