i have an image of a movie of mine that i was looking to back up, i have an iso of it now, but when i tried using nero, and alcholo 120% they both had errors and failed writing the file. the iso is around 7gb. so i had to pay more for 8gb dvds, but they are RW so i am now down 3 dvds and still haven't been able to copy my movie.

at least there seems to be a log of sorts for what alcholo was doing during the error. which i will include, although i am not sure that i can recall burning anything with this computer. as it is somewhat new, so i dont know if i should try to return the dvds, blame the drive, or even some sort of protection on the iso.

    thank you for any help.

I have burned several large ISO image files of over 6gb each using ImgBurn and dual layer (8gb) DVDs. All of them came out perfect. However, if you have a corrupt ISO file, you'll have problems regardless. I'm pretty sure that Nero (and probably ImgBurn too) has a 'test burn' option that you can use to check the integrity of the source ISO. If the DVDs are RWs as you stated, then you can erase them and try again. You can also try to extract the ISO much like you would extract a .zip file. You can 'unzip' ISO files using the freeware program TUGzip or one of the many $hareware ISO programs like PowerISO, UltraISO, MagicISO, etc. I think WinRAR will extract ISO files also. Anyway- once you've extracted the ISO, you can then burn it as you would normally burn a movie. You can also test the ISO by mounting it with Alcohol or with the freeware Magic Disc. MagicDisc is designed to be used with MagicISO, but it works just fine without it. Once it's mounted you can see if it's corrupt or not by seeing how it performs. If it mounts OK and you can play it all the way through and it isn't corrupt, then the problem may just be with the DVD burner.
I hope this helps.... good luck!

(I almost forgot.... burn the ISO image at a low speed; like 4x or 8x at the most. Yeah, it takes forever, but you'll generally get much better results. Another thing: some RW discs -both CDs and DVDs- must be 'formatted' before they can be used correctly. This means that you have to erase them first. Yes, I know the discs are new and blank, but put one in and use Nero's 'Erase Disc' option. You can use the quick erase. Then try to burn to it after you've erased it.... good luck!)

    thank you for the reply,
the iso that i decrypted did mount for me while using daemon tools, and although i have yet to watch it all the way through... it did play all that i tried while skipping through chapters.
i am going to try those programs you mentioned and see if there is any problems in the extraction or the test burning if i can find it.
otherwise i guess i might have to call dell or something, although i wonder if there is anything that i could do to test my driver w/o having to call them. i imagine if i isolate the drive as the last possible problem i will just have to trouble shoot on their site or something.

anyway, i'll give an update when i get any further progress.

ok well i got both the imgburn and tugzip. i dont have rewritable dvds so i dont think i can do the test function it just said that the media didnt support it and files would be burned to disc.
i noticed in either of these programs and attempts was that ing burn said that i shouldnt have been clicking the iso to burn, but the mds file instead. i dont know if that would make a difference, or if programs like nero or alcholo 120 would do that for me when i said to burn the image and clicked the iso.
also, when i extracted the iso using tugzip, it didnt say there was any problems. however when i checked over it to see if all the same files were in both spots i think it was short at least one vob file.

i am not sure if any of this helps you further to see some problems, but i didnt want to try another dvd on this program just to loose it. really stinks that a failed burn leaves the dvd with zero room and zero bytes on it. but i will try and watch the movie through using the mounted image if i have the time.

although i just realized that when i use dvd decrypter, there is a option under iso mode to use a read or write option. if i have been using the read option is that something that might cause a failed burn. and if so is there any way to mount an iso for a disk i have lost or is broke, and then have the decrypter make a write version of it?

    thanks again.
